Kansas City

Here are a few more pictures from our date in Kansas City.

Birthday Weekend

I turned 23 this past Friday! My mom had the day off so she and I had a wonderful girl's day out. We did a little shopping and ate at the Winery. Check out her blog for more information. That night, Eric took me out to dinner at The Wine Cellar. He also baked me a Red Velvet Cake, bought me flowers, hand-selected a box of truffles from The Candy Factory, and purchased a pair of Cole Haans I've had my eye on. He spoils me rotten. On Saturday we had a birthday tailgate to celebrate Mizzou's homecoming as well as my birthday. Of course, the Tigers won! Sunday we went to Marceline to visit my grandparents. My Grandpa and I share the same birthday, he turned 82 on Friday! Sunday evening Eric's parents took us out along with Eric's siblings. We all had a nice meal at Macaroni Grill and then came back to our apartment where Eric's mom showered me with gifts. She gave me Burberry perfume, a gift certificate to Kaldi's, and a black shirt from Forever 21. I had a wonderful weekend!

Love, Loss and What I Wore

My students had to read this book and create their own version of Love, Loss and What I Wore. I'm in the middle of grading all 50 of these books and they are absolutely fascinating. I'm inspired to make my own book, I already have a list of the garments I would include. Check out the book, it is a quick and easy read, and tell me what would you put in your own book?

Watkins Mills

One of the classes I'm taking, History of Textile Manufacturing and Trade, took a field trip to Watkins Woolen Mills earlier this semester. The mills still have all the original equipment and a lot of the original textiles actually made at the mill. It was as if the workers left for lunch and never came back. All the buildings were in fantastic condition, the equipment was set up as if it would run today, we even got to tour the home of the Watkins family. The woolen mill ran from 1850 to 1930. The link below will give you more information about the mill. If you ever find yourself in the Liberty, MO area, I highly recommend you visit!

Long overdue

I'm sorry it has been so long since my last post! I'll post several things to make up for lost time. This past Sunday Eric and I went to Kansas City for the day. I finally had an entire day off over a weekend, so we took advantage! We did a lot of just walking around and window shopping. I bought some clothes and some things for the apartment. We ate lunch at Houston's and dinner at Brio's. Dinner was amazing, Eric had lobster pasta and I had gnocchi. After dinner we went to a tiny gelato ice cream parlor and had chocolate hazelnut gelato. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was adorable! It was a fantastically relaxing day and well deserved.
